Just a June

I have a new voice now- silver partitions in my hair Thick silk laughter ringing in my ear I have a new tread,  Of  slow freedoms I've traded style for smile And reason for treason My brastraps hold me in place  Even as i get unsettled with this pace I have a new fear of freedom and an old rebellion for a joke As my vanity roosts inside a pair of unused heels All of my loves lay buried in time's wheels Sometimes I think I am a woman now, but then maybe I am just June One step and two missteps my new dance Perchance - i am now perched on a new romance Womanhood crept on me like a silent dry cough- Caught me by the bone And made a strange rattle  that only I could hear alone. A short riposte

Rather than simmer and fade away~                    a slow death                    Let our knowledge of each other spark treason and drive us apart-                    Rather than make unwieldy choices to live with,                    Let's learn to live without -                    Our questions.                    Let your fears be gentle on you, at nights, you will remember me by,                    And let my fables be drowned in silences as I put away the books t...

In this world today, while we're living Some folks say the worst of us they can, But when we're dead and in our caskets, They always slip some lilies in our hand. Won't you give me flowers while I'm living From Truman Capote's 'In Cold Blood' Chapter 2 A smoky mountain song

A postcard from summer

An Ode to WH Davies- Some days are so utterly beautiful. They shake you up. So utterly calm, they rest you in spirit. Today is one such day for me. And today is a day for music and for the air to flow past you and for you to just reach around and feel it. And it is here. No deadline, no rush-hour, no office-work, no to-do lists, no buying or selling- today is just for solemn somnambulance and for contemplating the free spirit that life bestows on you one way or another.  Winter is almost over- brief though it was and summer is playing peek-a-boo. And the summer- she had her own music . An enchantress who casts her spell long before she arrives. She perfumes her way much ahead of her arrival so that enraptured souls lie await in torment and await with bated breath for what is to come. Today I wish my name was Balthazar and I was in Corsica or Naples sitting atop a winding hill at my window writing beautiful prose that will surv...

Loss I wrote on the shore Lost Said the waves as they washed it away The sea knows It always has Yet each time it coalesces to attempt this boundless feat And bundle up this grief to take to other shores While I tell the waves turning away in situ I have emptied myself into thee Whatever dark was in me~ By  Lakshmi Ajay

Rejoinder

This rain was once us This beauteous smell of the wet earth Our song. This upbeat odour, one of our intense longing and ardour This distance our frequency. Many monsoons I have waited thus Unyielding, unworthy circumstance And you left everything to chance. Now it evokes fresh injuries. Of martyred truths for chance revelations. Of innocent forebodings that turned down the light inside of us- The rains their charm, your voice, my arm All empty like the sky above you and me. Where there was once a song and now there is only the wrong.
